Oceanside High’s Dr. Skyler Garrahy Named Region 18 High School Principal of the Year

Dr. Skyler Garrahy, principal of Oceanside High School, has been named Region 18 High School Principal of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) for her outstanding leadership and dedication to student success.  Under Dr. Garrahy’s leadership, Oceanside High School has expanded opportunities for students by implementing a 4x4 block schedule, increasing access to electives for English Learners and students with disabilities, and launching the district’s first advisory period to strengthen student-staff relationships and college readiness. She also helped boost FAFSA/CADAA application rates from 54% to 91% and significantly increased four-year university applications.

Committed to innovation, she introduced Pirate Compass, a course guiding 9th graders in career planning, and transformed Pirate Achievement Day into a cornerstone of college and career readiness. Her leadership in professional development has fostered a culture of continuous learning for staff, while her focus on school climate has led to a 180% reduction in suspensions.

Dr. Garrahy’s vision, dedication, and student-first approach have transformed Oceanside High School, making her well-deserving of this prestigious recognition.
