Recognizing distinguished alumni from Oceanside High School
Class of
1976
After graduating OHS, Roberta entered CSULB as a music major; by the end of her junior year her focus shifted from music to art. She/her work was juried into the Graphic & Advertising Design two-year Program, graduating in 1982 (a BFA in Advertising Design & Minor in Marketing). She spent the next decade working as an Art Director for two well-known Ad Agencies winning multiple awards. In 1992, she, her husband Chris & two young sons (Aaron & Brian), moved to New Jersey where Roberta started her own graphic/advertising design company “another bright IDEa, prod.”. In addition to designing, creating storyboards & new product boards for major clients, Roberta continued creating her art, using different mediums on canvas. During her 20 years in NJ, she spent much of her time in New York City for fun, work & exhibiting her art in multiple venues. She’s been a member of multiple art organizations; among them was one special honor when Roberta was juried, accepted & inducted (2010) into America’s oldest women’s art organization, the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA), headquartered in NYC. In 2017 (after moving to Florida), Roberta became the President of NAWA- Florida Chapter; serving in this role for five years (stepping down in Sept. 2022, to focus her attention on bringing more art exhibition opportunities for women). In addition to being a board-member, jurying & curating shows and exhibiting her art, Roberta creates websites for artists & art organizations; she teaches art & gives Corporate Team Building Workshops via Collaborative Art, and devotes all her time, in between to create her art. Roberta’s an award-winning artist whose work is Narrative. She views her Art as a vehicle for communication & storytelling. Her subjects are conceptual and/or metaphorical, allowing just enough for final interpretation to be the viewer’s. Her style is Illustrative & Contemporary Representation, often combining multiple mediums. Roberta is both a National and International Exhibiting Artist. Her work can be found in galleries, boutiques and in private collections throughout the US and in other parts of the world.
