Kevin was part of a large Marine family, moving to Oceanside in 1960.  He attended St. Mary’s Elementary, Mission Elementary, Jefferson Junior High and OHS.  He was active in sports and student body activities.  While at OHS, he was a quarterback on the varsity football team and an all-league and all-CIF baseball player.  He was also the ASB President his senior year. Earning a baseball scholarship, he attended and graduated with an AB in Psychology from Stanford University in 1975, then an MBA from USC in 1978.He started his energy career with Conoco in Houston in 1978 in their exclusive management development program. With that experience, Kevin started his own company American Central Gas Company in 1983 in Tulsa, OK.  He grew the company to one of America’s largest natural gas marketing companies and was awarded INC. Magazine’s #1 Fastest Growing Company in 1988.  The company marketed more than 1.2 billion cubic feet of gas a day in 1991 representing roughly 3% of all gas sold in the US. Having sold ACG in 1992, Kevin began many years of entrepreneurial startups with private equity funds of several energy companies through the years, culminating in the sale of Dallas-based Costar Midstream in 2014 for $470 million.  His latest venture Taproot Midstream outside of Denver currently operates over 125 miles of pipeline moving over 100k barrels of oil and produced water a day. Kevin has also invested in several commercial real estate developments in southern California and was one of several owners of the San Diego Sports Arena. Kevin has been married to Karen Engen (class of 1972) for 46 years and has a son, daughter, and daughter-in-law with five grandchildren.
